Sustainable Diet Games
Overconsumption of food due to unhealthy dietary choices and eating habits increases demand on food production is affecting the environment, since food production and distribution systems contribute to at least 25% of human-made greenhouse gas emissions. Also, it is considered as a threat to health, since nearly 2 billion people globally are overweight or obese”. [01]
Urban Food Studio was focused on how we can raise awareness and promote sustainable diet* especially among the younger generation.
The outcome of the Studio was three board games, each one highlighting a specific dimension of sustainable diet, all inspired by My Plate (the latest nutrition literature developed by USDA) [02]. The games are called Yummy Ring, City Bite, and PicNic. They were designed to introduce five main food groups (Proteins, Fruits, Vegetables, Grains, and Diary) to children aged between 5 to 12 years old.
The Urban demo of the studio was held In collaboration with Iran National Museum of Science and Technology (INMOST), through which all the games were presented to the public. Also, the game City Bite was showcased on a 1:1 scale, engaging children as actual players in the field.
At the moment, Yummy Ring is under development to be produced at a scale of 250 sets to get distributed nationwide.
