Graduated in architecture, Aref Montazeri started his training as a sculptor by his collaboration with Monir Shahroudy Farmanfarmaian on design and fabrication of her sculptures (2009-2015). He was involved in the fabrication of Parviz Tanavoli's sculptures and jewelry (2012-2014). Also, he participated in a course of History of Contemporary Art for two years.
Aref has been researching new material conditions and novel construction techniques, particularly when it comes to fabricating artifacts with primarily reflective surfaces, such as mirrors.
As a member of T-Residency program At TUIC, he was an art resident from 2016 to 2019, focusing on producing a full series of projects, intended for his first solo exhibition.
