As a system of systems, a city of 21st century incorporates various hard and soft layers, in different scales. The constructed landscape of a city, is a hard layer which is sometimes merely designed through a comprehensive point of view, resulting in emergence of countless of infill units. In the case of Tehran, the city has been always subject to comprehensive planning, which actually lacks the strategic planning for some scales.
The project [re/in]fill suggests an operative strategy for infill units, trying to be generic enough to overcome differences, and specific enough to engage and index the cultural, social, economic, and political nuances of its context.
The outcome of this research was suggestions on how the infill units can play more important role than just filling the city, through hosting multiple functions and meet various needs of the city and its urbanites.
